About Camp Sewataro

Camp Sewataro is a premier summer day camp dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children. Our mission is to foster personal growth, build community, and create lasting memories through engaging and diverse activities. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Community Support Specialist to join our team and support the upper camp sections: Eagle and Owl, serving campers in grades 4 through 8.

Position Overview

The Community Support Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring a positive and supportive camp experience for both campers and counselors. This position focuses on providing behavioral support, fostering a sense of community, and promoting the well-being of our older campers. The ideal candidate will have experience in child development, conflict resolution, and behavior management.

Key Responsibilities

Behavioral Support:

  • Provide on-the-spot behavioral support and intervention for campers in Eagle and Owl.
  • Assist counselors in managing camper behavior, promoting positive interactions, and addressing conflicts.
  • Develop and implement strategies for campers with specific behavioral needs using camps tools and resources.

Counselor Support:

  • Offer guidance and resources to counselors on effective behavior management techniques.
  • Facilitate a pre summer training session on conflict resolution, communication skills, and positive reinforcement methods.
  • Provide one-on-one support to counselors dealing with challenging camper situations.

Camper Well-being:

  • Monitor the overall well-being of campers in the upper camp sections, ensuring their emotional and social needs are met.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with campers, providing a safe space for them to express their feelings and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the camp nurse, directors, and parents to address any significant behavioral or emotional issues.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Maintain accurate records of camper behavior incidents and interventions.
  • Communicate regularly with the camp directors and supervisors regarding any significant issues or trends.

Qualifications

  • Education: Studying or have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in a camp setting, school, or similar environment.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and behavior management techniques.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with children and staff.
